With the penetration by BYU on that kick, the kicker didn’t have a prayer, no matter where it was from.
I was there and in my mind the UW coaching staff cost them the chance at winning the game. Everyone on the UW sideline, coaches and players, were throwing a fit after the call. The coach should have called a time out, gathered his team together, and told them to take a deep breath and kick the PAT to send the game into overtime. Instead, UW went out there whining and complaining about how they’d been robbed and let the BYU defense eat their lunch on that kick.
People seem to forget that if there had been no penalty, a successful PAT wouldn’t have won the game for Washington, it would have only sent it to OT. No guarantee they would have beat BYU in OT.
