Makes sense...minimum wage is only $7.25 and that's for 16 year olds, so logically a younger babysitter shouldn't be worth more than what a 16 year old can make.
With a baby that young, you might pay a bit more. My daughter has been thrilled when parents have thrown in a few extra dollars.
But all of my daughters have had the attitude that if they overcharge, people will ask them to babysit less often, and they WANT the opportunity to babysit and earn a little money. So I think rather than overpay ... pay their actual market rate for how old they are, and then use them every week and have a good number of dates with your wife!
