Time
AROD said in the second half, Baylor blitzed on every down, which they hadn’t

We were also trying to milk the clock at that point. Doesn't really lead to

He said he didn’t take his foot off the pedal.

Yeah, I know. Just pointing out a potential strategy flaw to just flinging it.

except for most critical play of the game where milking the clock is needed,

The play where Roberts was being held at the sideline, but no flag was thrown?

Tipped behind the line of scrimmage with Int by the D-lineman.

It's not hard and not a reason to fail for a half. Did he use it as an excuse
stansburycoug
Oct 7, 1:12pm
No. He said we called plays to counteract it but we didn't execute to make them pay.

Yeah and he’s right. Lots of screw ups. Playcalling was fine.

And the refs screwed up a couple of times

Bottom line: We just weren’t very good on O 2nd half

Care to break that down for us? Why isn’t it hard? Why isn't the opponent’s

Once they are blitzing every time it basically takes away the advantage
stansburycoug
Oct 7, 1:34pm
Seems reasonable. I’m sure Pay leaving the game impacted things some as well,
Polecat
Oct 7, 2:31pm
It's not just a matter of knowing whether they are blitzing every down or not.

You are right, but if you know its coming its much harder to disguise

Throw over the blitz...? How's that work with a sidearm delivery?

Thanks for chiming in Kalani, make sure to have the team ready to play since

Look, is it so out of line to ask questions when fans make solid firm claims

I'm a critic and don't think Baylor was all on Roderick but when the offense

Do you watch much CFB? Very common to have a good half followed by a worse one

A season and a half of mostly poor offense and all is good in Zion
CameronG
Oct 7, 4:05pm
The offense has been mostly good, not mostly poor the year
puntersarepeople
Oct 7, 4:21pm
Other than K-State setting BYU with short fields, the offense did nothing
CameronG
Oct 7, 4:33pm
30 ppg vs power teams and we’ve possibly faced our toughest 2 opponents.
puntersarepeople
Oct 7, 4:40pm
The first half of Baylor was maybe ARods best half of football he s ever called
stansburycoug
Oct 7, 5:16pm
No thanks for being 5-0 huh?

It puts more pressure on you when the starting C is out who calls all the

Seems that they were also down to 6th and 7th string running backs. Probably not fully adept yet on picking up blitzers.
valcorger

This is actually probably a bigger deal than Pay at this point
stansburycoug

Staff is undefeated and doesn’t need a “pass”.

I always thought throwing to the TE was a great way to beat the blitz.

Oct 7, 1:16pm
Throwing to where the blitz is coming from is usually a good way to beat it

Yes and guessing wrongly where the blitz is coming from is also a great way to

It probably shook the players more than him. Clearly execution was off in the 2H

Yep. Drops. Missed FG. Backups playing due to injury. Issue was execution.

Missed FG was 49 yards

Yes. And he’s hit 2 from 50+ this season. He has the leg for that distance.

He dialed up multiple plays that would have made them pay for blitzing. Didn't execute them well enough.

I read on PFF about Retzlaf before KState game...

That might catch up to us in the next game. Az blitzed Wilson a ton

Correct me if I'm wrong, but BYU hasn't been down big all season.
DizzyDean
Oct 7, 2:31pm
They did adjust play calling to account for that. He called multiple passes to make them pay. Problem was bad execution.

Oct 7, 3:50pm
If blitzes are being disguised and hard to identify, then it ratchets up the degree of difficulty. Poor execution

Would be interesting to see how many of those blitzes…

With our C injured on the sidelines & our lack of a dangerous RB, that was a reasonable strategy.

Then throw a screen pass and stop running it up middle. Not hard
zerome4sooners
Oct 7, 5:28pm
No kidding. Just call “screen right on two”. So easy.

So, every team will then just blitz every down, if that’s the result.
