Even my 4th grade teacher wife says that her students aren't all clamoring to start reading them the last
couple of years like they were just 5-10 years ago. I think the big craze wore off a few years ago.

I bet if you asked the average college student or senior in HS if they read them in their youth, the percentage would be very high that did. If you ask the average 4-7th grader about the books right now they'd tell you that know about them, have probably watched the movies, but very few have read any, or especially all, of the books.

My wife used to have to try to convince kids to read other books and series to branch out. Now she's trying to help convince the better readers to give Harry Potter a try to stretch their abilities, and kids don't act all that interested.
