Is it just my imagination, or do smoke detector batteries tend to fail
in the middle of the night?

You would think that with all the technological advancements we have made over the past few decades we could solve this vexing problem. Elon Musk, I'm looking at you.

Maybe a visual indicator that shows when the battery is getting critically low? Or smoke detectors that connect to your wifi network? We get notifications from our kitty litter, for heaven's sake (HCBW while running through the Istanbul Airport--"Hey! The cat just went to the bathroom!"). All I want is a 48 hour warning before the chirping starts.
