I have rooms in my house that rarely are used. Everyone has their own bedroom and a bedroom to spare. Is it nice to have the extra space? Yes. Do I need it? Not at all. We got lucky and bought a foreclosed house for about $12,000 less than was offered for the same home a year or 2 earlier, because the bank was desperate to sell. Bought a home bigger than literally every other home we looked at and only looked at it, because we were looking at an adjacent home and saw that it was for sale.
