Emmett Fitz-Hume All-American
I had a job for three years where I was on the road for about 5 days, every two

weeks. I thought it would be no big deal because my kids were in HS, doing well, and pretty self-sufficient. So not even close to 100% travel.

Even though my family was in great shape, and I had amazing support at work (I had an admin assistant who did all my travel plans, on-site scheduling, tickets, visas, multiple passports, reimbursements, etc.), I couldn't believe how tired I was after a little over one year in the job.

And it was kinda sad, because I would be in some of the most amazing places on the planet, but wouldn't even want to leave the hotel because I was just beat. It was drudgery. A few times, my family would fly in to join me in a city, and they were ready to go do cool stuff, and I just wanted to sleep and go home.

A couple examples of how it can get: In Vienna at the Christmas markets and looking at my wife an kids and telling them to just go without me because I needed a nap. Another time in Oman, we were all ready to head out to one of the oases, and it was all I could do to drag myself out of the hotel when I would have otherwise been ready to go. This happened too frequently, especially during my last year and a half.

And when I was in a rough spot where I was basically confined to the hotel, then it really sucked.

It wasn't worth it, and I don't think it would have been for a significant pay bump either. However, if I really really needed the money, I might tough it out.
