INSUFFERABLE KNOW IT ALL
Sanderson is a machine. I have mad respect for him. I just don't care for his writing.
I think his dialogue and prose are pretty weak. Obviously he has strengths that overcome those weaknesses for many people.

Steel heart

Steelheart is a fun read...but mistborn is where I'd start to introduce Brandon's writing and story telling. So good

For someone who hasn’t been heavily into fantasy yet this will be a better start

What can I say? I'm not a fan of his writing style.

Sep 25, 12:23pm
If you like George RR Martin and NOT Sanderson, I'm speechless.

I've tried several of his books. It's just not for me. I'm well aware I'm in the minority here.

at least Sanderson finishes his series.

You think his prose is so poor that people shouldn’t read him at all?

Sep 25, 2:41pm
I think there are better authors out there. I've not been able to finish most of his books that I've started.

"LOTR was so slow." Hmm. Hold up. You get hung up on Tom Bombadil? I mean

Sep 25, 12:17pm
Elantris then the oldest Mistborn series.

Emperor's Soul. You can finish it in an afternoon and see if his style resonates

Sep 25, 12:18pm
This is one of the best books he's written, of any length

Sounds like you should give it a pass based on your preferences.

Based on not liking LOTR? Modern fast paced easy to digest fiction writing makes LOTR tough for young readers.

Ready Player One is great (like you said)...made AWESOME by the narrator Wil Wheaton.

+1 for Tress

Andy Weir. The Martian, Project Hail Mary
byujacob
Sep 25, 12:23pm
Yes to both. Especially Project Hail Mary

Sep 25, 12:24pm
I liked the Martian. Going to try Project Hail Mary as well.

in addition to PHM, "Artimus" by Andy Weir is very good

Sep 25, 12:33pm
I liked Artemis, but it's not as good as the others.

Warbreaker is my favorite stand alone from Brandon Sanderson.

Sep 25, 12:25pm
I’d throw in a different suggestion, The Sunlit Man
arnold palmer
Sep 25, 12:25pm
Sure if you want soo many things in the Cosmere spoiled

Sep 25, 12:27pm
I’d say Warbreaker. For now, it’s a standalone book so you won’t have the
babycarrot
Sep 25, 12:26pm
I'd recommend Name of the Wind, but the author doesn't have the discipline to finish the series
darkcoug
Sep 25, 12:47pm
One of my favorite books of all time, doesn’t even bother me that he might not
arnold palmer
Sep 25, 12:50pm
Try Larry Correia Son of the Black Sword.

The best series is the Stormlight Archive, but I don't think that's the best
cougarfan84
Sep 25, 1:20pm
Elantris is his most "boring' book though if someone doesn't love the genre
runnincoug
Sep 25, 1:23pm
It's why I would recommend waiting until after reading the first 3 Mistborn
cougarfan84
Sep 25, 1:38pm
It doesn't really affect Stormlight at all until maybe this upcoming book 5

Sep 25, 1:55pm
Thanks for the rundown

If you're going to have Landry read it to you out loud, don't do Way of Kings.

Sep 25, 3:29pm
