...outgoing coach. 2015 class was #50th rated class, 2014 was #33, 2013 was #29, 2012 was #25, 2011 was #23. That's a 5 yr stretch where the avg recruiting class ranked #33 and gave Bronco a ton of talent to work with when he started at Virginia. it was very similar to his start at BYU where Crowton had recruited a ton of future NFL talent into the program but had just mismanaged the team for several years. Bronco brought stability and order.
Bronco's biggest issue is he's not a great recruiter. He started to struggle at BYU once all of Crowton's players left the program after the 2009 season. He recruited well enough to win 7-8 games pretty consistently but couldn't maintain the 10-11 win/top 25 annual ranking level of success. His recruiting classes consistently were too low.
He ran into a similar issue at UVA. His first recruiting class in 2016 was ranked #63, 2017 was #58, 2018 was #59, 2019 was pretty good at #39, 2020 was #49, 2021 was another good one #33 but not enough to get the program back up to that 7-8 win level. I think if he stays at UNM for a while he can recruit well enough to get them to a level where they can win 6-8 games a year playing in a lower level g5 league (CUSA?). But the one hangup for him will be Nick Howell running his defenses.
