Rumors are that he showed up in the coaches office and said he needed a huge amount to stay and they said no so he left for a better offer. If true, very classy of Sluka to frame it as a commitment that wasn't met on the part of UNLV. If this is allowed expect to see more of these kinds of transfers.
The lower tier schools are just going to have a horrible time retaining talent unless they are willing to start paying up. Any breakout player is going to be instantly poached. On the other hand, a lower tier program that can raise funds may be competitive when they wouldn't be otherwise. So no idea where the dust settles on this, but I'm going to be sad if every player in CFB just becomes a straight up hired gun. There needs to be some contractual obligation to stay with the school like you would have in professional sports.
