I gotchu. PAC 12 implodes, leaving Oregon State and Washington State. Everyone thinks the PAC is dead. A few weeks ago,
The PAC shocks everyone by adding Boise State, San Diego State, Colorado State, and Fresno State to get to six teams.
To be recognized as a conference by the NCAA, you need 8 teams. So the PAC has been reaching out to other schools to try and get to 8. But they’re turning the PAC down. Memphis, Tulane, South Florida, UTSA all decided to stay in the American. So the PAC turned to other MWC schools to get to 8.
But the remaining 8 MWC teams all formed an alliance today to remain together. So UNLV, SJSU, etc. turned the PAC down. The PAC was looking dead, because all worthwhile schools said no. But then Utah State shocked everyone and accepted the PAC offer, leaving the MWC and PAC with 7 schools each. Now, UNLV is rethinking things (probably to get Nevada on board with leaving because they’re a package deal).
So now we’re in the saddest arms race of all time, where both the PAC’s corpse and MWC are trying to convince UNLV to go to them. The losing conference will end up adding Texas State or Who Cares Tech to get to 8.
