Not when they start getting annual CFP bids
This isn't the NCAA Tournament where a bunch of smaller conferences get bids every year. Even though they are still very limited, now that CFP appearances are actually achievable programs and conferences will be measured by how often they are in the playoff. And a conference that puts a team in the playoff every year, even a G5 conference, is absolutely relevant to the national discussion. And part of the short-sightedness of Memphis' decision today is that they had they opportunity to tilt the scales so far in the PAC's favor that the PAC would've been a P4 conference by default. Instead the PAC is simply decidedly better than the rest of the G5s and the AAC is still going to struggle to get CFP bids so Memphis hurt its own chances of getting into the playoff.
