My current theater room is kind of a mess. When I set it up years ago, it was an open area with only 3 walls. There was
a nearby closet, so I routed all of the cables in the ceiling to that closet and put all of the AV equipment in there. I used a Harmony Ultimate One remote to control all of it (that remote doesn’t need line of sight). It was a nice clean look- TV mounted on the wall, speakers in the wall and ceiling, and no cables or wires visible anywhere. It served us fine for several years.

But we remodeled the house a few years ago, and part of that we decided to close off this room. The setup still worked, but it was kind of awkward needing to leave the room to go to the closet with all of the AV equipment if you needed to do something hands-on, like put in a BlueRay disk.

But then this summer my Harmony Ultimate One remote quit working. The whole Harmony remote line has been discontinued. There is no similar or competing product that exists right now. That means the whole “let’s have the AV equipment in a closet outside of the theater room” idea doesn’t really work anymore

I’ve hobbled along for a little while using my Roku remote (it’s WiFi). When I manually turn on the TV, it also turns on the receiver in the closet, and I can watch stuff on the Roku using its remote. But then I have to remember to manually turn off the receiver in the closet when I turn off the TV, and I also can’t mute without getting up and leaving the room. Awkward.

So I think it’s time for a whole new theater setup. My plan is to get an UST projector with ALR screen and put it in a cabinet below the screen.
