Sat on the Wyoming side for the 1st half. (Moved to BYU section for 2nd half)
I actually enjoyed some of Wyoming traditions and the sing-along songs during timeouts. But, there was more drinking than any other game I have attended...more than Wisconsin, and that is saying something.

After walking to campus from the BYU tailgate, we were almost immediately welcomed with the expletive "Wyoming Welcome." I had my teenage daughters and 12-year-old son with me. We heard the same salutation probably 10 times while walking around campus...and that's not counting those shouted from a distance. Fear not, I still shook several hands and had some friendly exchanges about our wonderful drive to Laramie through Colorado.

After watching early warmups in the endzone, we climbed to our seats. The stadium was mostly empty. We heard the Wyoming Welcome a couple of times. Gratefully, one student stopped short from a second shoutout when his girlfriend observed my kids.

While sitting at the top of the mostly empty pre-game stadium, one Wyoming fan deliberately climbed all the way to the top where we were seated and approached me and gruffly asked why we were sitting where are tickets were and not in the BYU section. Don't worry, I turned the awkwardness into a friendly conversation and learned that the guy watched Wyoming beat BYU and Jim McMahon in 1981 during a blizzard. I fact checked that one.

As kickoff approached and the stadium started to fill in, belligerent drunk guy arrived and took position nearby and then loudly exclaims in our direction "How the ___ did you BYU fans get these seats? What the _____ are you doing here and not in the BYU section." Welcome to you too, good sir. He almost lost it when a few other BYU families took their seats in the area. It was great. He kept pounding the back stadium wall while angrily booing. Booed me when I posed with my son for a selfie. Ha!

The student section chanted their fine Wyoming Welcome greeting at least 10 times after the BYU football team made their entrance. I think the music was too loud and the frustration made each attempt louder to make sure the team could hear them.

I talked with a few Wyoming fans around us that were nice enough. But, we saw empty seats across the stadium in the BYU section and enjoyed the second half and the victory with fellow Cougars.

After the game, we walked down near the locker room entrance so my kids could high five some players - which they did. But, a very drunk Wyoming fan right next to my son was shouting Wyoming Well Wishes at the top of his lungs while sending the team off with the double bird again and again and again. He even invited a couple of the players to meet him in the parking lot. Good times.

I'm glad I made the trip but I don't think I will attend a game in Laramie again.
