We hear of a team where the question comes up “is this the best lineup ever?” No doubt there’s been some good ones the last decade or two - Braves, Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Padres, etc. one of the best ones I can remember that you could put up against almost any lineup is the 1995 Indians, they had 7 Hall of Fame type players, almost all in their prime granted Vizquel was HOF for defense but still). 7 starters hitting .300 or more and they won 100 games in a shortened season of 144 games. Man alive, that lineup:
1. Kenny Lofton (.815 OPS, 109 wRC+)
2. Omar Vizquel (.684 OPS, 80 wRC+)
3. Carlos Baerga (.807 OPS, 107 wRC+)
4. Albert Belle (1.091 OPS, 173 wRC+)
5. Eddie Murray (.891 OPS, 128 wRC+)
6. Jim Thome (.996 OPS, 158 wRC+)
7. Manny Ramirez (.960 OPS, 145 wRC+)
8. Paul Sorrento (.847 OPS, 112 wRC+)
9. Tony Peña/Sandy Alomar (.679, 74/.810 OPS, 108 wRC+)
Oh and Lofton was stealing 50-70 bases back when it was hard.
Too bad we had the shortened season in 1994 bc that lineup was just as deadly and will never know how far they would’ve gone
