When I was in high school my young men's leaders did an annual activity called "while you were sleeping" they would take us to 24 hour operations to show us work that goes on during the night. One of those was US synthetic, they took us on the tour of the lab/factory where the diamonds were made. The guy giving us a tour told us about the BYU grad (I think) who was active in the church.
From what I remember, this tour guide went through some significant health challenges, when the founder/owner of the company found out he put him on paid leave and also paid for his medical treatments. This same man built a factory or building in Africa and was employing the local people there to build it. A contractor came in and offered to do it for cheaper and faster. The tour guide said the owner declined as he would rather give the starving people work to do so they could afford to take care of their families.
