It's probably overrated by people who consider it the gold standard. IMO some of the Bombay House spin-offs have surpassed the original (Little India yes, Red Fort in St. George no). Overall I'd consider Bombay mid-to-upper more than mid-to-lower and Provo is lucky to have it. But the wait is often not worth it. Tandoor Indian Grill doesn't have the ambience but you can walk in and get a table even on weekends, and the curry dishes are on par with Bombay.
Some others to try
- Se Llama Peru (center st dive with outstanding lomo saltado)
- Red Fuego (also good lomo saltado, cleaner and closer to campus)
- Black Sheep Cafe (green chile stew, fry bread and cactus pear lemonade)
- Block (nice for anniversaries etc)
- Thai Papaya (strip mall family run shop)
- CHOM (burgers good, fried chicken sandwich good)
- Pizzeria 712 (used to go there a lot but now I have a pizza oven so...)
- Asa Ramen (small but legit)
- oteo (steak, fish and veggie tacos are all good)
