I think this is spot on.
Yes, Jake has a troubling history, and in my mind, had an extremely poor stretch in another subpar performance on Friday. He also won the job in a heated competition throughout spring and fall camp, and he's unbeaten this season. He looked very good in one win, and BYU beat a near-top 25 P4 squad to whom they were double digit underdogs on the road in the other game.
I get the reasons for disagreement here, but I don't think you can bench him right now. Not yet. If Bohanan proves to be comparable or worse (and yes, he absolutely could), you have a full on QB disaster if you've pulled Retzlaff already and drained any confidence he could be expected to have--in his own mind and in the eyes of the team.
I think the right answer was and is sticking with him but with a conditional short leash at this point. Another turnover-laden performance gets Retzlaff the hook. A scatter-brained extended stretch like we saw at SMU should probably get Bohanan at least a series or two.
