Agreed
I think that while there have been massive movement (and some stabilizing) within conference realignment, recruiting with the portal, the average football fan is still finding their place within the new football world. Fans can have extremely volatile expectations of a program now that a team can remake itself within the portal. With players getting paid, large sums of money, fan commitment to players is now in flux as the roster can have significant upheaval year to year. There used to be a large divide, in my opinion, between fan bases of the college and NFL. I think we are seeing some of the aspects of NFL fandom being brought into the college atmosphere. For some college fans, the type, frequency, and intensity of criticism may not be something they want to see in the college ranks.

As to the QB play - knowing now that Retzlaff is the starter, I kind of wished we hadn't brought in Bohannon, and instead focused all spring and summer getting Retzlaff ready to go. It seems for the last two years, we have mortgaged our future for the present and missed. There has been no development. I think the game between BYU and SMU is a perfect illustration of two programs making the same mistake - not picking "the guy" early on and committing to them, building the scheme and team around them. The years where BYU has been extremely competitive is when we had an entrenched starter early on in the Spring.
