In a world where anyone can jump to the transfer portal at any time, and if they have any skills or talent at all they'll get grabbed up quick - I just think you want to be doing whatever you can to encourage a player to stick around. And if you're struggling to run the ball, you don't want a talented RB sitting at the end of the bench thinking he can do better than what he's seeing on the field.
If the player WANTS to RS, that may be different. And maybe after some conversations, there are times that an RS makes sense for certain kids. But even then - you never know who's going to get in his ear and drop hints that he might be better off elsewhere if these coaches aren't going to give him a shot.
