He’s a 50% completion guy and TO machine against good teams and looks great against crummy teams and in practice. He’s had 5 INT and 10 fumbles in 6 games. Starting Gerry won’t damage JR - just the opposite - it establishes accountability and message to him that he needs to take care of the ball or he doesn’t get the starting job. That should motivate a true competitor, and if it doesn’t, he shouldn’t be the leader of the offense. On the other hand, if you start Gerry and he struggles, then the debate is settled - we have two mediocre QBs. Then you put Retz back in and hope he’s fired up and hungry. If Gerry does great against WY, then you give him the first few series against KSt. If he proves he’s a gamer against a really good team, debate settled - he’s our guy. If he struggles, then here again you put JR back in and hope he’s now hungry.
