Last year SMU was in the top 15 in just about every team defensive category.
11th in scoring defense
12th in yards per game
13th in passing yards per game
They also returned 6 of their top 7 tacklers from that defense.
My point. Everyone is being hyper critical of the difficulties that BYU had on offense. After the game Hans said that he felt this defense had at least two NFL caliber players on the defensive front. I noticed that there wasn't much of a pocket for Jake for much of the game.
My point is that SMU on defense might be really good and that was a primary reason for Jake's struggled.
I'm not trying to make excuses for Jake and two of his three turnovers were completely inexcusable and are on him. But I think to be fair the SMU defense was good last week and made things very difficult.
