Comparing job performance and year-over-year growth.
Someone would have to be a complete idiot to ignore something somebody did as part of their job description several months ago and only look at what they've done in the last 2 weeks. Especially if what they've done in the last two weeks mimics what they did several months ago. Looking at the big picture helps the evaluator identify a trend. In the case of retzlaff, there is a trend. We haven't seen anything through two games that would suggest a significant uptick in performance from last year.
That's not to say that he's not the best option at QB1...he may be. But you'd still be foolish to not look and use last year's performance as a baseline to assess this year's improvement against. And frankly, if this is the best QB option that BYU has right now, things do not bode well for this offense given the existing data available.
