in my life. I tend to be more optimistic than I should at times, but this year I have not consumed any of the cool aid. Not sure I’ve posted more than a couple times about football. I also have a contact with the team that I talk with weekly that honestly hasn’t given me much hope to change my outlook. Until yesterday.
He mentioned that he has been cautiously optimistic for most of camp, but that after the 2nd scrimmage, the coaches see clearly the progress needed to win 8 games, at a minimum, and that they will compete in every single game to the very end. The composition of who will play is now very clear, and even with potential injuries to most positions, the depth is there to surprise all of the doubters.
Of course, this was like happy pills shot right into my veins. I’ve come down a bit today, but I am now in the camp that our defense will be on a level we haven’t seen in years and will actually help us win games. If the QB plays to the level my contact now thinks is likely, we will also be a top 6 conference offense.
So I guess I’ve flip flopped. I’m all in for a building block season to help change the direction of the program. I’ll also add the pressure on Kalani is very real and most fans will not recognize him this year. Still skeptical here, but I guess we’ll all see soon enough.
