LOL! I cannot tell you how many times I have been ordered
by some management person to do the wrong thing as an engineer. You think it matters if the engineers don't sign off on it?! That's a funny one.

Here's one Boeing example: Boeing knew that they needed to create a more fuel efficient version of the 737 to compete with the Airbus A320neo. This required putting physically larger engines under the aircraft. Engines that didn't fit under the existing 737 design. The engineers recommended a full aircraft redesign. Management said that wasn't going to happen. It was too expensive to do the redesign and recertifications required. Management ordered the engineers to put the larger engines on the 737 MAX in a way that changed the aerodynamics of the aircraft. The engines had to be mounted higher and further forward than on previous versions of the 737. Boeing's MCAS system had to be added as a result of this change. They intentionally compromised to save money and time. Planes crashed and hundreds of people died.

Boeing's reputation was built on safety and engineering excellence. They ruined that reputation in the last 20 years. Their leadership team is 100% to blame.
