I’ve wondered that too. I think it’s because the MAC would be the closest FBS
They’d be on the extreme west of that league. Maybe MWC would be a fit too, but then they’d also be in the extreme east of that conference.
Also, they have mastered being the big fish in the small pond. Being a small fish in a big pond is a different game.
