The two concerns on the offensive side of the ball is QB and WR. Jake is a monster of an athlete almost Taysom Hill Jr. but he made so many horrible decisions, didn’t protect the fb, and has too much heat on his throws. I won’t be surprised if he starts but has an extremely short leash. Would love to see him more as a wildcat option this year. He plays great for an entire series and then makes such a boneheaded play. It very well may be a qb carousel. If we can get back Baylor Gerry the position may be okay. Although we hoped for USC Freshman Slovis and he never fully appeared. The USU kid, if he’s as fast as people say may have the job by the end of the year. Too may QBs, some will leave or want to save their eligibility and request sitting out.
The WR are the other concern. Epps was nowhere to be found last year. They all struggled getting off the line and their lack of speed was evident. Lots of dropped passes. Protecting the ball was an issue all season, you got to hold onto it no matter how hard you get hit. ARods favorite play (Wr jet sweep) didnt work at all in the B12. (Oline was bad) but the WR were just too slow. I don’t think we brought in anyone that will make any sort of a major impact. If the run game develops, the WR will do okay.
It will be interesting to see what happens this year. BYU will be much better than last year. Depth will be a concern again as once the starters get hurt, backups just aren’t as good. They could win anywhere from 4 to 8 games.
