A counter against the narrative that employers don't care about their employees.
I'm in Houston. We've been without power since Monday. It's very hot. Even at night, its too hot and humid to comfortably sleep without air conditioning. And based on the extensive damage to the electrical infrastructure that I've seen in my neighborhood, combined with the large number of people still without power, it'll be a while until it comes back.

My employer's HR rep called me yesterday and is getting us two hotel rooms for my (large) family to stay in until our power is back. They didn't have to do that, but they did.

Maybe they're just trying to buy some good will for an employee at a vulnerable time in hopes that it makes me more loyal in the future. Perhaps I'm naive, but I think they may actually care about me and want me to be comfortable.
