I've always been on the "suspend them for multiple games" train. I think a DUI is one of the worst things someone can do in their life. However, punishments shouldn't cut across all phases of a persons life.
For example, someone close to me recently got a DUI. The punishment is 5 days in jail, suspended drivers license for a year, some amount of community service hours, and probation for a year. That seems to be pretty standard in my area.
But what changed my mind about suspending players. This person that I speak of - their place of employment is working with them. Is supporting them in that allowing them to take time off to serve the jail time and community service hours. They weren't suspended or fired from work.
I'm sure Ollie Gordon is going to face some of the same punishments above. He is probably going to do some extra physical training. Ollie is essentially an employee - a valuable employee at that and Ok State is going to make sure his job and punishment by the law doesn't collide much.
The only thing though - Ollie Gordon and other football players are community idols. Their example is seen by young players and young people in the community. And so Ollie should be offering a public apology and do some public repentance as well.
