According to the NWS, 117 was the previous record, set 5 times

At least from the official measurements at the airport. Not sure how accurate a bank thermostat reading is (or a memory from 50 years ago 🙂 ) but its certainly possible its been higher than 117 in other parts of the valley at some point.

As of 156 PM PDT, Las Vegas has reached 117°F.

This ties the all-time record high temperature. (set in 2021, 2017, 2013, 2005, and 1942). #nvwx #vegasweather

Hmmm. I remember when we moved to Vegas that the bank temperature reading said 118 degrees as we drove into town.
