Well, yeah. They can't determine causality without splitting us all in 2 groups
randomly, and then assigning one group to drink soda and the other group not to. In the real world, those kinds of studies are nearly impossible. So if we only wait for the causality experiments...well, we're going to be waiting a long time. I don't think it's good to throw out well informed suppositions from research just because they couldn't randomize the population into groups.
