and Utah seemed to pick up a little steam under McBride during the middle-ish 90's. He was more competitive with Lavell that decade head to head (McBride went 5-5 in the 90's vs BYU and 5-6 vs BYU overall while Lavell was HC).
Utah didn't have as much overall success as a program under McBride in the 90's as BYU did under Edwards though. Utah only went to 5 bowl games and finished ranked in the top 25 once while BYU went to 8 bowl games and finished ranked in the top 25 four times in the 90's. Neither team had winning bowl records that decade.
