This is in reference to Scalley being named as the successor to whit.
Everything gets leaked (or made public) for a reason. So that begs the question, why did they publicly state that Scalley is Whittingham's successor? This agreement was already made behind closed doors, what's the point to going public with it.
I see three reasons.
1) Utah feels like a public announcement will deter other schools from poaching Scalley, which is laughable. They told everyone what Scalley will make as a head coach so a team just has to offer more and Scalley will leave.
2) This is just utter ineptitude from the AD. They want to show everyone that they have a plan and feel like making that plan public will score them brownie points with boosters and fans. In reality, it tips their hand to everyone and they look dumb if the plan doesn't happen.
3) There's some friction between Whitt and the higher ups and this is a way to try and push Kyle into leaving sooner.
