1. The money is different now. KY isn't happening before the big 12. Before the big 12, we had to hire a bunch of assistants who wouldn't stay in coaching if they weren't at BYU. Remember that one time that Dupaix took an MLM job after leaving BYU?

2. Football and basketball are different. I think for the most part, people on this board aware of just about all of the members of the church who are coaches who could qualify to be football coach at BYU.

This time last year I didn't even know the name of our own assistant basketball coaches, let alone who the members of the church are/were who could take Pope's place.

I don't think there is some football equivalent of Kevin Young out there other than maybe Kellen Moore, who could be snatched up for the right price. The main good news here is that if there is, we can afford him now.
