The Lakers job is horrible right now. LeBron is still elite, but he’s turning 40 this year. Anthony Davis can leave next
year. The Lakers have maybe one year to make a run, but they don’t have the money/resources to make any significant improvements.
After that, they’re staring down the barrel of a significant rebuild. Hurley would be a good fit next year, but not this year. Smart to turn it down.
