I mourn a bit the now bygone days of college sports, I don't know how many more stories we'll get like Kyle Van Noy's
Let me get three things out of the way:

1) I am very excited about the direction BYU is headed with the investment into their teams/programs (including NIL).
2) Players absolutely deserve to get paid (perhaps not as is presently configured).
3) I know some players were paid under the table earlier.

I think brining money to the table serves to diminish the individual attributes of the universities athletes are now selecting. Bronco embraced BYU's uniqueness and made it central to his recruiting pitch. Players went to BYU (and stayed there) because of the environment it provided for personal growth.

As a fan it was rewarding to watch players come to BYU, get the support they needed to change the trajectory of their life. Kyle Van Noy as an example stayed committed to Bronco despite having to sit out a year because he believed what Bronco was telling him about how BYU would help him. It was a very admirable decision. I think money in his situation would've clouded the decision making even more.

I think there will still be some stories like that, but they will be less frequent, and in general players will embark on fewer multi-year journeys of growth at a single school. And while I am really excited for more investment in BYU for its leadership, I will miss when college sports were amateur.
