Sort of. My Grandfather landed on June 9th on a beach between Omaha and Utah still encountering stiff German resistance.

He was part of a Signal Corp installing and maintaining communications, but still ended up with a rifle in his hands and stumbling upon German soldiers holding out. He recorded in his personal journal how thankful he was for those that made the first landings and the horrors he saw. He moved all the way across Europe as part of a locator division that was tracking all Allied troop positions on the continent. His camp was overrun in Belgium at the Battle of the Bulge. He ended up in a small village in Germany very near the Buchenwald concentration camp and recorded his experiences there.

He very rarely talked about his time in the war. Interestingly, he had only recently returned from a mission to Germany when he enlisted and was sent to Europe to be part of Operation Overlord.

I knew my Grandpa well and had no idea all that he had lived through until I was much older and, unfortunately, learned much of what I have after his passing through records and personal journals. To me, he is/was the most interesting man in the world and my biggest hero. What a life.
