It is a depressing and disjointed story set in the depression era in Duluth, Minnesota. The songs were all versions of Bob Dylan songs which didn’t really seem to have much to do with the story plot. The main themes were, in no particular order, mental illness, stress of bank’s foreclosure and financial ruin, suicide, racism, unwanted pregnancy. SPOILER— the bank does foreclose, the characters do commit suicide and/or murder or accidental death of a mentally handicapped young man. There is no happy ending.
