I was watching a Red Letter Media episode on the demise of movie theaters
They were talking about how studios rely on existing popular IP because theater attendance isn't dependable which makes original ideas risky. Paradoxically, people might be staying home because of sequel and remake fatigue. I wonder if there's a path forward that involves direct to streaming movies or TV shows with sequels in theaters. I wonder how much money HBO would have made had they done theatrical releases for Game of Thrones? How would a Stranger Things movie do in theaters?
