Smart home - DIY or professional installation?
I am looking into turning our home into a “smart home” and have spent the Las little bit going down the rabbit hole of all the options available. For those who have had a professional system installed (Control4, Savant, Creston, URC, etc.) how much control do you have to tinker with automations, etc.? If you want to adjust the timing of lights, or if you want to set up an automation so one garage door opens when you come home, but a different one opens if your wife comes home, do you have the flexibility to add that yourself, or do you have to call up your installer and have them come by? Or if you want to add an extra sensor to have something new happen, so you have to call them up, or can you do it yourself.

After doing some research, I think I could set things up myself, but it would require a lot of time and effort. I probably would start with HomeKit and add in a z-wave hub (hubitat or homey pro - not interested in home assistant since that would be too involved for me). I would rather pay someone to set everything up for me then also have the freedom to tinker with things the way I want it.

Any thoughts or recommendations?
