For those that don't know ARFID stands for anxiety related food intake disorder.
My soon to be 13 year old daughter was diagnosed with it in February/March after a 2 week stay at Primary Children's Hospital.
It's not anorexia and it's not bulimia. She just gets anxious around food and doesn't want to eat it. Somehow I made a kid that doesn't like food.
I can't remember the last time she said "I'm hungry"
It's a disease that I just don't understand. She has started therapy.
We are seeing a dietician regularly. She eats with a counselor at school during lunch.
Lunch is the meal she struggles with the most. She has never eaten her full lunch at school and has to supplement with Ensure. Our goal is to get her back into the cafeteria by the Fall.
Every meal is a chore. We have to coach her through every bite of food. It takes some serious patience.
It's something I worry about in the long run. Will it ever go away? Will she be able to go on a mission? Is she just going to stop eating when she goes to college?
Just some morning thoughts and info from a concerned Dad.
