Coaches poached right after the season concludes are in a tight place. It's in the Ath Dept's interests to have em up &
DISAPPEAR.
Honestly.
That's always been the case, but in the here-n-now with the Portal recruiting in FULL swing at the time — we needed to reinvent ourselves overnight — & the parting words & feels to-&-from the "I'm-outa-here" coach was NOT in our program's interests at all.
"Congrats, Pope — sincerely — but the biggest thank-you you could give us now is to be gone by morning & not look back."
If all the filters were off, I'd imagine that's what Tom would've told Pope at the time Tom heard the news of his hiring at UK.
