I don’t think they asked for bitcoin. She thought she was taking cash to the Sheriff’s office (which would seem hard to
fake, so I get why she would be hesitant to think there would be a scammer there to receive her cash).
The maneuver they added was telling her it was her responsibility to verify that the bills weren’t counterfeit, and to do that they convinced her to use this machine to “check” them.
What she was really doing was depositing the money so they could take it.
She didn’t think bitcoin had anything to do with it.
