My wife got this call too. Honestly, it was much more convincing than most scam
attempts. The guy didn't mention bitcoin, and kind of buried the payment part so it didn't seem like he was just after money. Claimed to be an officer, gave his name and badge number, no foreign accent or anything. Said we could go down to the sheriff's office and take care of it in person if we wanted, but if we did, she would be detained for failure to report. That's how they were trying to prevent you from going to the sheriff's office and find out it's a scam. She was already assuming it was a scam, but that pushed it over the edge--no one is going to jail for not showing up for jury duty one time.

He said he was from the sheriffs office, so while my wife was on the phone with him, I called the sheriff's office. They get so many of these calls, the lady I talked to at the sheriff's office said to put her on speaker with him. As soon as my wife said, "I have the sheriff's office on the phone," the guy hung up instantly.
