Sat evening my wife's side of the family wanted to do a little Mother's Day get together and they decided Timbermine Steakhouse up in Ogden. I've heard of it for years, but never been. My wife grew up in Weber and Box Elder Counties and had been there many times and loved it. She hadn't been since we've been married.
We took the whole family. I ordered the 8oz filet and shrimp, while my 12 yo who LOVES steak got a 16 oz ribeye. Both were terrible. Maybe the most bland steak I've ever had. It was also bone dry and overcooked For a filet it was cooked medium well,,,bordering on well done when I'd ordered medium rare. My son ordered his ribeye medium. I know there's more fat in ribeyes than most cuts and it's supposed to enhance the flavor. A good ribeye is wonderful. His required a chainsaw to cut through. It was scorched and there were maybe 4 to 5 actual bites of the cut they cooked that weren't fat. My wife's steak was terrible. My 6 & 10 yo who don't care about how their steaks are ate all of theirs.
The place was absolutely jam packed. Maybe we went on an off night and it's clearly still extremely popular, but man I'll never go back. It was so bad I'd rather eat at Sizzler. That's how bad it was.
For a place that's supposed to be so wonderful for steaks it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a Steakhouse. I'll never go back.
