the characters. Michael didn't want the family business, but his older brothers were unfit to lead. The family business pulled him in. There is so much going on there in the visuals that things shouldn't have to be explained. Again, maybe you have no connection to a large family with brothers, or a family business, or a historical understanding of early immigrant life in America. There is plenty there that the average American relates to. It's also based off a book, and Coppola had zero expectations it would resonate like it did. It's not even in my top 25 films of all time, but to say all old movies suck, because the writing is bland and poor, really stifles any credibility you may have in your criticism of the film.
