Several years ago I worked with an indigenous Mexican (dark complexion) who died at 30 years old from melanoma.
A friend of mine who is part Japanese with a dark complexion also had melanoma and I’ve known of other similar cases.
Are fair-skinned people more at risk? I presume yes but it doesn’t seem to be how it was explained to me in my youth. During my childhood I remember the narrative was basically if you have light hair, light eyes and light skin — you are significantly at risk of melanoma but it’s been very eye-opening realizing that even those with dark complexions can get Melanoma.
