where I live, it is against code to plumb the house for cold water to be
softened. So only the hot water gets softened.
When you shower it is a mixture of hot and cold water so there are always hard water.
The reason for the code is these conditioners work by ion exchange. Calcium for sodium. Thus your drinking water would have heavy NACL or salt which causes hypertension or high blood pressure.
