It's possible Popey just wants him to serve as the token "fanatical effort" guy, and that he's only used as
a threat to more talented players if they don't work hard that Richie will get their minutes because he tries harder.
As Popey gets his talent in place for the 2nd season, it's entirely possible Richie's minutes go down his senior year or loses his scholly altogether. I'm becoming increasingly convinced Popey is that ruthless.
