Like exactly true.
Lavell was hardly hands-on, particularly towards the end of his tenure, and he could sneak down to Salt Lake for the media bullpen. The reporters loved it because it was in their backyard, and they could sit there while he and Ron McBride playfully jabbed at one another.
Crowton, actually needing to build his program as the brand new head coach, correctly saw the weekly Salt Lake press conference as a complete waste of his time. And there were media members who threw a hissy fit when he wouldn’t go, Tanner Mangum’s father-in-law the chief among them if memory serves.
Media members: When you start to believe that you are the actual story, stop. Sometimes we like you, but none of us wants to hear about how a head coach of an athletic program we follow had the gall to inconvenience you in some way, usually minor.
One of the few times where you do legitimately become the story is when your whining becomes so absurd and so loud that we have to notice. In these instances, you do in fact briefly have our attention, but it’s hardly flattering or helpful for you. We’ll go out of our way to ignore you 10 times over for every instance in which you compel us to look at you.
